Christopher A. Walsh

Christopher A. Walsh is the Bullard professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, chief of the division of genetics at Children’s Hospital Boston, an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and an associate member at the Broad Institute. His research interests center on the genes that regulate the development and function of the human cerebral cortex. Mutations in these genes cause autism and epilepsy, as well as mental retardation and other learning disorders. Not only are these genes vital to the normal development of the cortex, but many appear to have been altered evolutionarily to allow the unique aspects of the brain that underlie human cognitive abilities.
