Dyann Wirth
Dyann Wirth is the Richard Pearson Strong Professor and chair of the department of immunology and infectious diseases at the Harvard School of Public Health and an associate member of the Broad Institute, where she co-directs the Infectious Disease Initiative. An expert in tropical disease and molecular microbiology, she has developed many of the molecular genetic tools used in the investigation of malaria and leishmania. Her laboratory, focused on understanding drug resistance, was the first to discover multi-drug resistance mechanisms in these organisms. The discovery of new drugs for multi-drug resistant parasites and the application of genomics to drug and vaccine development are two areas of current focus.
