Harvey Lodish
Harvey Lodish is a professor of biology and bioengineering at MIT, a member at the Whitehead Institute and an associate member at the Broad Institute. His research interests center on five important areas at the interface between molecular cell biology and medicine: red blood cell development, hetamatopoietic stem cells, microRNAs, the hormone adiponectin (synthesized exclusively by fat cells), and the processing of the transmembrane precursor forms of several secreted growth factors. What ties all of these projects together is their focus on the basic cellular and molecular biology of proteins important for human metabolism and disease, and the use of powerful molecular tools, including expression cloning strategies, techniques for immunolocalizing proteins in cells and tissues, and the generation and analysis of genetically altered mice.
