Monty Krieger
Monty Krieger is the Whitehead Professor of Biology at MIT and an associate member of the Broad Institute. His laboratory currently focuses on two areas: 1) the role of the Conserved Oligomeric Golgi (COG) complex in establishing the structure and function of the Golgi apparatus, and the role of COG mutations in human disease; and 2) receptor-mediated lipoprotein metabolism and its influence on atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. The latter work includes the discovery and analysis of the HDL receptor, called SR-BI, and the generation and characterization of murine models of atherosclerotic occlusive coronary arterial heart disease.
