Community Annotation

To register as an annotator, please request a set of credentials.

The Community Annotation Project (CAP) is a collaborative effort to engage experts in the biology of Neurospora crassa to improve the quality of the N. crassa genome annotation. The release of the N. crassa genome sequence and its automated annotation represent the critical first steps in harnessing the power of genomics research for the Neurospora community. The next challenges are to refine the genome annotation and to actively capture, improve, and associate with the genome the wealth of information that exists within the research community for functional and comparative analyses. CAP is designed to provide the fungal research community the ability to associate information with genetic features onto the Neurospora genome, to refine gene structures, and to curate all entries in a structured searchable database.

The primary goals of the Community Annotation Project(CAP) are:
  • To verify and improve the accuracy and consistency of the genome annotation
  • To refine current gene models and capture information about alternative splicing and untranslated regions
  • To integrate information from the Neurospora Compendium and other references with the genome sequence
  • To provide a searchable database with expert curation that can support functional analyses

CAP is part of the Functional Analysis of Model Filamentous Fungus Program Project which is supported by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIH grant No. 1P01GM068087). The goal of the Program Project is to carry out functional genomics, annotation, and expression analysis of Neurospora crassa. We thank all participants who generously donate their time and expertise to CAP.

The CAP infrastructure was developed by the Broad Institute in collaboration with the Oregon Health & Science University. CAP is jointly managed by Matthew Henn and Bruce Birren at the Broad and Heather Hood and Matthew Sachs at OHSU in consultation with the Neurospora Annotation Steering Committee (ASC).

CAP annotations

You can view all the annotations submitted by CAP participants using the links below or at the bottom of the page. CAP annotations are also available from the "Gene Detail" page for each gene.

CAP Curation

CAP is curated by Matthew Sachs and Heather Hood from the OHSU. Participation in CAP requires registration with the curators. A username and password granting annotation privileges is provided to an individual upon approval. Please make such requests using the credential request form.
