This pair of images below displays neuronal dendrites, which resemble wintry, cracked ice on a frozen pond.
Neurons (left) labeled with a fluorescent tag that marks dendrites. The image was processed (right) using CellProfiler and ImageJ software, which enhance tubular shapes to allow measurement of dendrite length.
